Delete your Mtaa Yangu account

This page is for users of Mtaa Yangu, the local business directory app by Mtaa Yangu. You can delete your account and its data here on the website - you don't need to install the app.

How to delete your account

  1. Log in with the phone number and password you use in the app.
  2. Type DELETE and tap Permanently delete my account.

In the app: open the Account tab and tap Delete account.

Your account is deleted straight away. If you have forgotten your password, reset it with a code sent to your phone first.

What is deleted

  • Your account: name, phone number and password.
  • Businesses you own, with their photos, logo, location, opening hours, services, reviews, statistics and Premium status.
  • Reviews you have written, your favourites, business claims and reports.
  • Your notifications and any phone verification codes.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Premium payment records (amount, date, M-Pesa phone number and receipt number) are kept for 5 years after the payment, as Kenyan tax law requires. They are no longer linked to your account.
  • Activity statistics (for example how many times a business was viewed) are kept without any link to you, so they are anonymous.
  • Backups: deleted data may remain in our providers' encrypted backups for up to 30 days before it is overwritten.

Delete some data without deleting your account

You can delete a review you wrote from the business's page, remove favourites at any time, and edit your business listings from your dashboard.

Can't log in?

If you can no longer use your phone number to log in, email us at the developer contact address shown under App support on the Mtaa Yangu page on Google Play. Tell us the name and phone number on the account; we will confirm it is yours before deleting it. See our privacy policy for more about how we handle your data.
